On Sunday, July 5th, two months after her birth, Princess Charlotte was christened among close friends and family. Her christening was held at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk. This church is located near the Queen’s estate in Sandringham. But this particular church holds a particularly special meaning to Prince William. It is the church where his mother, Princess Diana, was christened in 1961.
As usual, many people gathered to sneak a peek at the royals and the new princess! I believe I read that there were around 3,000 people that gathered that morning.
In attendance at the christening were Michael and Carole Middleton along with their children Pippa and James, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, and of course, the Queen and Prince Philip. Noticeably absent was Prince Harry. He is currently in Africa.
Also in attendance were Princess Charlotte’s five godparents:
Instead of traveling by car to St. Mary Magdalene like all the others, the Cambridge family made their way to the church along a path lined with well-wishers.
Prince William guided George while Catherine pushed Charlotte in a pram. This particular pram was used by HM the Queen.
George looked a little confused at times by all the people lining the walkway…but I don’t think he minded the spotlight! He handled the spotlight like a pro!
Of course the queen was there! She donned an elegant pink ensemble to watch her great-granddaughter be christened.
And of course the Middleton clan was present along with Prince Charles and Camilla.
Here’s a closer look at Pippa and Carole’s outfits. Carole wore a gray dress with a matching coat. The designer was never confirmed but speculated to be Catherine Walker, the same woman who designed the blue ensemble she wore to the royal wedding.
Pippa looked regal in a cream Emilia Wickstead dress and Jane Taylor hat. Lots of people didn’t really care for this look but I love it! I think it is sophisticated, elegant and chic!
There she is!! Isn’t she beautiful? This is the best look we have really gotten of Charlotte since she was born. It looks like she has blue eyes (like her dad) and dark hair (like her mum). What do you think? Who do you think she favors most?
The Duchess of Cambridge looked beautiful in a white Alexander McQueen coat dress and a Jane Taylor hat. If you look closely you can see that as Kate picked Charlotte up out of the pram, Charlotte started crying!
Nanny Maria was also there to help out! She donned her full Norland College (a school for nannies) uniform.
Here the Queen and Kate look lovingly at Charlotte who is situated in her pram.
And of course, George had an action packed morning! He is quite the little “monkey,” to quote William. He even took off running away from his dad at one point.
Look at those cheeks!! 🙂 Ready, set, go….
This was perhaps the best moment of the day! Little George on his tiptoes to look at his sister in her pram. Isn’t this so sweet? This is the first time we have seen the Cambridge’s as a family of four and they are just so adorable!
George had a quick chat with his great-grandmother, the Queen.
Even royals aren’t immune to temper-tantrums! George had a little spat as the Cambridge’s made their way back to Sandringham House, where they had refreshments. But William and Kate handled it like pros and they went on their way!
When outside the church, William was holding George’s hand and George stopped to look back to make sure the rest of his family was coming too. William told George, “They’re coming! They’re coming!”
That’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed this “royal rewind” back to Princess Charlotte’s christening! Stay tuned for more! 🙂
