On Friday morning, Kensington Palace announced a short list of upcoming engagements for William and Kate. The one I am most looking forward to is their attendance at the BAFTA awards on February 12th. If you didn’t know, BAFTA stands for British Academy Film Awards. It is like the British version of the Oscars.
On their US/Canada tour in 2011, Wills and Kate attended a BAFTA Gala while in California. I think it’s safe to say that when Kate stepped out of her car in that lavender Alexander McQueen gown, we all knew she would never fail us when it comes to fashion–especially evening wear. Let’s all relive that moment for a second.
I mean…doesn’t she just glow? It’s probably that newlywed-bliss! 😉
Anyways, this event will call for an evening gown and we all know that when it comes to evening wear, she has several designers that are go-to’s: Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen are two of her favorites.
She already has a pretty lofty ‘gown’ section in her royal wardrobe, but I have a feeling this will be a new dress. I would love to style Kate for one of these events, but since that will probably never happen, I have compiled a list of gowns and shoes that I believe would look fabulous on the Duchess. Natasha Archer, feel free to take a gander! 😉
Jenny Packham Beaded Short Sleeve Tulle Gown
While this is similar to the very first Packham dress she wore, I think it it gorgeous and these soft colors would look great on her! *Found at Neiman Marcus
Carolina Herrera Strapless Ombre Ruffled Gown
This dress is giving me serious Jenny Packham ink-blue gown vibes (the dress she has already worn three times). The navy blue color has already proven to look amazing on Kate– but what color doesn’t?? This would be a slight risk as we never really see her in fashion quite like this and we haven’t seen her in a strapless dress since that black velvet McQueen years ago…BUT I think this dress would look fabulous on Kate.*Found at Neiman Marcus
I would pair this gown with either pair of these pumps and some seriously bling-ed up jewels– maybe a statement necklace or some sparkly earrings.
Stuart Weitzman (left), Jimmy Choo (middle), Gianvito Rossi (right).
Marchesa Embellished A-Line Dress
THIS. DRESS. *praise hands emoji* I have been waiting for the day that we see Kate in Marchesa and I hope it is this dress. The embroidery and tulle are just to-die-for! I can’t help but think about the pink sparkly Packham dress when I see the neckline of this one. Very similar! A low, messy updo, smokey eye and some killer stud earrings would make this the perfect ensemble for the BAFTAs. *Found at Saks Fifth Avenue
Paired with these shoes: all Christian Louboutin
Catherine Regehr Techno Crepe Flora-Detail Gown
Before perusing the web for potential dresses, I had never heard of Catherine Regehr. She is based out of Vancouver and her dresses look like they belong on royalty. Check her out here. Anyways, this dress is simple, feminine and sleek. The floral details around the arm are beautiful and add just a little something extra. *Found at Saks Fifth Avenue
Some shoes to go with this dress:
Monique Lhuillier Floral-Appliqué Long-Sleeve Illusion Gown
The last two that I have chosen are both Monique Lhuillier and they are both a little bit outside of Kate’s comfort zone, but nonetheless gorgeous! We have never seen Kate in Monique or a high-low silhouette. I’m not usually a fan of the high-low, but the way this tulle falls is exquisite. Also, the floral appliqué is a work of art. Since the high-low silhouette isn’t typically in Kate’s sartorial repertoire, some modifications could be made to make the entire dress floor-length and it would be just as beautiful. *Found at Neiman Marcus
Monique Lhuillier Sleeveless Draped Illusion Gown w/Contrast Floral Appliques
This isn’t necessarily something I would see and automatically think of Kate. However, the colors of this dress may be my favorite combination of colors ever and they remind me of the Anita Dongre dress from Will and Kate’s India/Bhutan tour last year. I think this would look SO stunning on her and up her fashion game in the process!
I cannot wait to see what she does end up wearing. It will be a showstopper, no doubt! I hope you enjoyed playing “dress-up” with me today! Leave your thoughts in the comments below! I would love to hear your suggestions as well! Full coverage of Kate’s upcoming engagements will be here on the blog. You don’t want to miss it!
