Romancing the Throne: A Royal Review

Ever since I can remember (except for a short, agony-filled time in elementary school), I have loved reading. Like at Sephora, I could spend hours in any bookstore and spend hundreds of dollars on various books that catch my eye. Books are also useful for more than just reading- you can decorate with them, too. Coffee table books anyone? However, my favorite thing about reading is the ability to completely escape reality for a few hours and just get lost in the story. This sounds so cliché but I can’t help it. I’m a total bookworm.

I remember reading A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks in seventh grade and thus my love for romance novels began and a hopeless romantic was born. A little later, when I started following William and Kate, I remember being obsessed with royal movies: The Princess Diaries, The Prince & Me, all the royal Hallmark movies. Now, I cannot get enough royal-inspired novels. So, when I received Romancing the Throne by Nadine Jolie Courtney in the mail, I couldn’t wait to read it.

The back cover reads:

For the first time ever, the Weston sisters are at the same boarding school. After an administration scandal at Libby’s all-girls school threatens her chances at a top university, she decides to join Charlotte at posh and picturesque Sussex Park. Social-climbing Charlotte considers it her sisterly duty to bring Libby into her circle: Britain’s young elites, glamorous teens who vacation in Hong Kong and the South of France and are just as comfortable at a polo match as they are at a party.
It’s a social circle that just so happens to include handsome 17-year-old Prince Edward, heir to Britain’s throne.
Charlotte’s had her eye on Edward, and soon they’re snogging all over the campus lawn and common rooms—while Libby busies herself with settling into her studies and navigating the complicated social code of Sussex Park. Eager to put her sister at ease, Charlotte encourages Libby to hang out with her new boyfriend. And much to everyone’s surprise, Libby and Edward hit it off.
Actually, they really hit it off.
In this juicy, contemporary girl-meets-prince story, two sisters find themselves at odds over the same boy amid high-society expectations and paparazzi scandals. In the end, there may be a price to pay for romancing the throne . . . and more than one path to happily ever after.

This book is so good. SO. GOOD. Nadine grabs your attention from page one and you don’t want to put the book down until you’re finished. Romancing the Throne is the perfect combination of humor, charm, and romance. You will find yourself laughing, cringing, smiling and almost tearing up at times.

Dating a royal has its own set of rules and challenges and this story explores many of the ones that Kate (and even Pippa…even though she and Wills never dated) must have faced. However, there are certain perks that come with being in the inner circle of England’s most elite: gowns, galas, jetting off to Paris, weekend trips to country mansions, the list goes on. Nadine covers it all and you wish you were part of it…or at least I did at times.

I’ll say it again. This book is so good. I can’t wait for it to hit bookshelves on May 30 so you can see for yourself.

Don’t want to wait until May 30???

Kate to attend BAFTAs

On Friday morning, Kensington Palace announced a short list of upcoming engagements for William and Kate. The one I am most looking forward to is their attendance at the BAFTA awards on February 12th. If you didn’t know, BAFTA stands for British Academy Film Awards. It is like the British version of the Oscars.

On their US/Canada tour in 2011, Wills and Kate attended a BAFTA Gala while in California. I think it’s safe to say that when Kate stepped out of her car in that lavender Alexander McQueen gown, we all knew she would never fail us when it comes to fashion–especially evening wear. Let’s all relive that moment for a second.

I mean…doesn’t she just glow? It’s probably that newlywed-bliss! 😉

Anyways, this event will call for an evening gown and we all know that when it comes to evening wear, she has several designers that are go-to’s: Jenny Packham and Alexander McQueen are two of her favorites.

She already has a pretty lofty ‘gown’ section in her royal wardrobe, but I have a feeling this will be a new dress. I would love to style Kate for one of these events, but since that will probably never happen, I have compiled a list of gowns and shoes that I believe would look fabulous on the Duchess. Natasha Archer, feel free to take a gander! 😉

Jenny Packham Beaded Short Sleeve Tulle Gown

While this is similar to the very first Packham dress she wore, I think it it gorgeous and these soft colors would look great on her! *Found at Neiman Marcus

I would pair this look with either of these pumps – Jimmy Choo (top) and Monolo Blahnik (bottom).

Carolina Herrera Strapless Ombre Ruffled Gown

This dress is giving me serious Jenny Packham ink-blue gown vibes (the dress she has already worn three times). The navy blue color has already proven to look amazing on Kate– but what color doesn’t?? This would be a slight risk as we never really see her in fashion quite like this and we haven’t seen her in a strapless dress since that black velvet McQueen years ago…BUT I think this dress would look fabulous on Kate.*Found at Neiman Marcus

I would pair this gown with either pair of these pumps and some seriously bling-ed up jewels– maybe a statement necklace or some sparkly earrings.
Stuart Weitzman (left), Jimmy Choo (middle), Gianvito Rossi (right).

Marchesa Embellished A-Line Dress

THIS. DRESS. *praise hands emoji* I have been waiting for the day that we see Kate in Marchesa and I hope it is this dress. The embroidery and tulle are just to-die-for! I can’t help but think about the pink sparkly Packham dress when I see the neckline of this one. Very similar! A low, messy updo, smokey eye and some killer stud earrings would make this the perfect ensemble for the BAFTAs. *Found at Saks Fifth Avenue

Paired with these shoes: all Christian Louboutin

Catherine Regehr Techno Crepe Flora-Detail Gown

Before perusing the web for potential dresses, I had never heard of Catherine Regehr. She is based out of Vancouver and her dresses look like they belong on royalty. Check her out here. Anyways, this dress is simple, feminine and sleek. The floral details around the arm are beautiful and add just a little something extra. *Found at Saks Fifth Avenue

Some shoes to go with this dress:

Manolo Blahnik (top right), Jimmy Choo (left), Jimmy Choo (bottom right)

Monique Lhuillier Floral-Appliqué Long-Sleeve Illusion Gown

The last two that I have chosen are both Monique Lhuillier and they are both a little bit outside of Kate’s comfort zone, but nonetheless gorgeous! We have never seen Kate in Monique or a high-low silhouette. I’m not usually a fan of the high-low, but the way this tulle falls is exquisite. Also, the floral appliqué is a work of art. Since the high-low silhouette isn’t typically in Kate’s sartorial repertoire, some modifications could be made to make the entire dress floor-length and it would be just as beautiful. *Found at Neiman Marcus

Pair with these shoes:Aquazurra (left), Jimmy Choo (top right), Jimmy Choo (bottom right)

Monique Lhuillier Sleeveless Draped Illusion Gown w/Contrast Floral Appliques

This isn’t necessarily something I would see and automatically think of Kate. However, the colors of this dress may be my favorite combination of colors ever and they remind me of the Anita Dongre dress from Will and Kate’s India/Bhutan tour last year. I think this would look SO stunning on her and up her fashion game in the process!

Shoes for this dress: Christian Louboutin (left), Roger Vivier (top right), Manolo Blahnik (bottom right)

I cannot wait to see what she does end up wearing. It will be a showstopper, no doubt! I hope you enjoyed playing “dress-up” with me today! Leave your thoughts in the comments below! I would love to hear your suggestions as well! Full coverage of Kate’s upcoming engagements will be here on the blog. You don’t want to miss it!

Kate, Queen of Fashion

ICYMI, this week the Duchess of Cambridge, or as we like to call her, Kate, was named the top fashion influencer in the UK. This is absolutely  no shock to many. She is one of the most famous fashionistas in the world and her style is impeccable.

While she does have someone to help her with her sartorial choices, Kate has a very keen sense of style and we can all see it every time she steps out in the public eye. Now, Kate does have expensive pieces in her wardrobe, but she also doesn’t shy away from a bargain. I think this is one of the reasons so many people admire her and go into a frenzy to buy the latest pieces she has worn.

In honor of her new title, I have put together some of my favorite outfits that we have seen the Duchess wear. Enjoy!

The Royal Trio, the Cambridge Cuddle and One Major Stank Eye

Since Kate returned to the public arena last week, she did so with a bang (pun intended)! She visited the Anna Freud Centre, had two trips to the Rugby World Cup and made a surprise visit to a women’s prison all in the past two weeks. However, it has been quite awhile since we have seen the royal trio. Fret not though, William, Kate and Harry attended the 2015 Rugby World Cup finals in Twickenham on Saturday and pretty much reminded us why we love them- the faces they make while watching sports, the Cambridge couple and Harry being the cutest third wheel out there.

Here are some pictures of the stadium to set the scene…

Now, get ready… because the royal trio is back!

The final match was between Wales and England. William, being vice-patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, and Harry, who is vice-patron of the English Rugby Union, were rivals for the night. I’m guessing Kate cheers for Wills’ team.

Harry made for some great entertainment for royal watchers. His faces were hilarious throughout the night! Here he is, obviously happy and cheering on his team.

Happy Harry!

William doesn’t look too happy here. I think Kate was just along for the ride! She seems pretty entertained no matter who is winning.

I don’t know what is happening in this picture, but it has to be something serious!

Picture break! I would like to imagine that they are looking at adorable pictures of George and Charlotte! They could be, right?!?

Don’t you just love them? They look so happy! *Side note: Harry still has the beard… 😉

Now it’s time for William to nag at Harry because his team is winning.

And once William’s team finally won, this happened…

*Major Stank Eye Alert* Oh, Harry… you and your silly faces, and beard, and blue eyes. Let us console you while you get over that loss.

And now, for the best part of the night. This is what I am now going to call the “Cambridge cuddle.”

Aren’t they the CUTEST?!?! We don’t usually get any PDA from these two, so to see them like this is so nice! They are just adorable!

I mean… LOOK at them!

*insert heart-eyes emoji*

The way they look at each other ❤ ❤ ❤

Here is an up-close shot of Kate. It was very hard to determine what she was wearing but, thanks to some very quick friends on Twitter, they determined that Kate was wearing her red Hugo Boss pashmina/scarf and new Zara pants! The top/jacket was never identified. Here’s a look…

These particular floral print trousers are by Zara.

Stay tuned for more this week as I recap Kate’s visit to the Anna Freud Centre, first appearance at the Rugby World Cup and her surprise visit earlier this week.

Relive the Royal Moment: Trooping the Colour

After a short hiatus, Call Me Kate is back for the summer bringing you all the scoop on the Duchess of Cambridge!

In honor of Trooping the Colour tomorrow and (fingers crossed!) a Prince George appearance, I want to look back at all of Kate’s past Trooping the Colour looks!

In case you didn’t know, Trooping the Colour is an event that marks Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday! The event takes place on Horse Guards Parade which is located near Whitehall. It is also close to St. James’s Park. This even does not disappoint. It is full of pomp and circumstance!

It was confirmed today that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be attending tomorrow morning. It is also speculated that Prince George will make an appearance! This has not been confirmed but all royal fans have their fingers crossed! 🙂

Duchess Catherine has attended this event four times and this year will mark her 5th summer as part of the royal family in attendance. Her first Trooping the Colour was in June 2011, shortly after she and William were married in April.

Let’s travel back and take a look at all of Kate’s beautiful attire worn to Trooping the Colour…

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 8.38.56 PM

Kate wore a gorgeous cream Alexander McQueen coat dress with a black Philip Treacy hat. Doesn’t she look gorgeous?!?

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 11.03.59 PM

Kate points to something in the crowd as William looks on.

Catherine, Harry and the Duchess of Cornwall ride in an open carriage together making their way to the celebration.

Catherine must have gotten her royal tickle box turned over.

Another close-up of the Duchess. You can see the details of the coat dress and hat a little more here. And her amazing locks!

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 10.36.50 PM

For Trooping the Colour 2012, Kate chose to wear a light blue dress by Erdem and a matching hat by milliner Jane Corbett.

Like the previous year, Kate and the Duchess of Cornwall ride together in a carriage.

Here is a up-close view of the Duchess’ look!

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 10.37.28 PM

This was a year unlike any before– Kate was 8 months pregnant with George during her third appearance at Trooping the Colour. She chose a beautiful pink Alexander McQueen coat dress for the occasion and a hat by Jane Corbett.

Screen Shot 2015-06-12 at 10.41.40 PM

One of the reasons I love Trooping the Colour so much is that we get to see the “Royal trio.” Harry and William are such cute siblings and I really love that they are such close brothers.

Last year, Kate went with an icy blue/ gray Alexander McQueen jacket and skirt. She accessorized with a hat by Jane Taylor.

As you can see, Prince George was not in attendance last year.

What a lovely couple!

I cannot wait to see what Kate wears tomorrow! Whatever it is, she will be stunning and stylish– as always! As for Prince George… we will see!!!

I will upload pictures tomorrow as soon as I can so be on the lookout! 🙂

I will leave you with one final picture…because why not?!?!

A Year In Fashion

2014 was a huge year for William and Kate. They celebrated Prince George’s first birthday, took a two-week tour of New Zealand and Australia, announced that royal baby #2 is on the way, and wound up the year with a trip to NYC!

Of course, we cannot talk about Kate Middleton without talking about her wardrobe! As the new year begins, I want to look back at Kate’s best looks from 2014. Since she always looks ahh-mazing, you can imagine how hard it was to narrow down.

I chose 16 of my favorite outfits that the Duchess wore in 2014 and ranked them.

16-Beulah London--1616. Beulah London “Amara” dress

Kate made her way to a private reception in NYC wearing this gorgeous dress. She paired the dress with black, suede Stuart Weitzman heels.

15-Catherine Walker (Macarons and Bubbly)--1515. Catherine Walker Coat Dress

This was the very first outfit we saw Kate in as she arrived to start her tour in New Zealand. Looks like Kate stole a play from the Jackie O playbook with that pillbox hat. Classic!

14-Séraphine (Who What Wear)--14
14. Séraphine Turtleneck Dress

As a girl who loves turtlenecks, I absolutely love this dress. Simple but sophisticated. Also, what better way to jazz up a $99 dress than with an $80,000 Cartier necklace? That’s right— $80,000!

13-Jaeger (Daily Mail)--13
13. Jaeger dress

Kate definitely knows how to find a bargain. She snagged this dress for only £99. That is one (of the many) things I admire about her. She wears high-end pieces as well as affordable pieces as well.

12-Emilia Wickstead (Macarons and Bubbly)--1212. Emilia Wickstead teal coat dress

Kate rocks this beautiful pleated coat dress on one of her stops during her New Zealand/Australia tour. Also, that fascinator goes perfectly with her ensemble! Can you say regal?

11-Mulberry (NY Post)--1111. Mulberry coat

Kate brightened up the big apple in this gorgeous pink Mulberry coat during December. You can’t even tell she is pregnant!

10-Goat (BIAF)--1010. Goat coat

This classic coat by Goat was also worn while the Duke and Duchess were in NYC. You can never go wrong with all black!

9-Jenny Packham (NY Post)--99. Jenny Packham Ink Blue Dress

So this is the third time we have seen Kate in this dress…and she looks better every time! This dress is absolutely gorgeous! She truly looks like royalty here!

8-DVF (Entertainment Wise)
8. Diane von Furstenburg Wrap Dress

When looking at this picture, I have serious fashion and hair envy. This dress is so versatile and looks amazing!

7-Tory Burch (The Dishh)--77. Tory Burch “Bettina” coat

This coat is a classic. As you can see, Kate dressed the coat down with a pair of black skinny jeans and black pumps, but could have easily dressed it up as well. She wore this coat while meeting Chelsea and Hillary Clinton as well as Jay-Z and Beyonce.

6-Zimmerman (InStyle)--6
6. Zimmerman dress

This dress screams summertime! The beautiful white lace looks stunning on the Duchess. Her cork wedges by Stuart Weitzman go perfectly with this ensemble.

5-Lela Rose--55. Lela Rose dress

Okay, so…I think we all can agree that the Duchess can rock the color white. Here is Kate on the last day of her NZ/Australia tour in a white Lela Rose dress.

4-Alexander McQueen (Macarons and Bubbly)--44. Alexander McQueen ensemble

This is one of my fave outfits that Kate has ever worn. I just love the light pink color and the peplum top! Kate paired this outfit with her infamous LK Bennett “Sledge” pumps.

3-Alexander McQueen (cream, InStyle)--3
3. Alexander McQueen Coat

Here is Kate in an ivory Alexander McQueen coat. First of all, I love Peter Pan collars, so I was automatically drawn to this coat. Second of all, I love peplum, and (although it is hard to see) this coat has peplum detailing at the waist. Also, the pleats are great too. All around, this coat is a winner!

2-DVF --2
2. Diane von Furstenburg “Zarita” dress

So this dress is another one of my all-time favorites! The lace detailing is simply stunning. The Duchess screams royalty in this beautiful DVF dress. Can I please have one??

Royal Tour of New Zealand and Australia-Day 14
1. Alexander McQueen dress and coat

I think we can all agree that Alexander McQueen can do no wrong! All of his creations that the Duchess wears are absolutely classic and regal. This might be my favorite Alexander McQueen outfit that she has ever worn (apart from her wedding dress). This ensemble was worn while attending an Easter service in New Zealand. I love how clean this outfit looks. Kate looks just like a future Queen here— classy and regal.

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed my blog and will visit again! 🙂
