*Disclaimer: Although this is not Kate Middleton related, I love to cover award season! Enjoy!*
Awards season is upon us at last! To kick it off, last night was the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. Ricky Gervais was hosted and he did not disappoint. He had plenty of jabs directed at Bill Cosby, Caitlin Jenner and even Mel Gibson. But Ricky wasn’t the only jokester of the night. Plenty of other stars had their funny moments (whether intentional or not).
Some of my favorite funny moments:
When bffs Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer presented together and Amy decided to give herself a celeb nickname.
Another funny moment was when nominee Aziz Ansari thought he would lose to Jeffrey Tambor with dignity.
And one last moment was when Lady Gaga went to accept her award and bumped into Leo DiCaprio…
Leo’s face though…
On a more serious note, one of the best moments of the night was when Sylvester Stallone won for his performance in Creed. He got a much deserved standing O and closed his speech in the best way possible.
Now… moving on to fashion. For some reason, in my opinion, the fashion was sort of blasé this year. Collectively, there were not as many stars that just blew me away as there have been in past years.
Nonetheless, there were several stars that did not disappoint. Here are my top 7 gowns from last night.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture
Since J-Law is a Dior spokesperson, it was no surprise that she wore Dior. She has worn Dior to many of the past award shows. This dress. Major heart-eyes emoji. I. love. it. Red is such a beautiful color on Jen. And that necklace may be even better than the dress. The color, necklace and the cutouts of the dress make for a perfect combination– youthful and sophisticated all-in-one.
Jenna Dewan Tatum in Marchesa
Marchesa is one of my all-time favorite brands. I love the silhouette of this dress and the beautiful, rich color. Jenna is famous for wearing full gowns like this one. The neckline is revealing without being gauche. This whole ensemble is great– from the sleek hairstyle to the gorgeous clutch.
Queen Latifah in Badgley Mischka
First of all, I love Queen Latifah. Second of all, I love this dress. What’s not to love? This turquoise-teal color looks stunning with Queen Latifah’s skin tone and hair color. And the neckline is to-die-for. The little touch of embellishment at the top is perfect. Work it, Queen!
Emmy Rossum in Armani Privé
Another gorgeous red dress of the evening was worn by Emmy Possum. She looks so chic and svelte in the dress. It is simple and sophisticated. I am in love with the necklace she paired with the gown. It reminds me of Naomi Watts’ snake necklace from last year’s awards. If I had to title this look, it would be “Old Hollywood Glamour meets New Hollywood Chic.”
Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli
J.Lo is one of those rare Hollywood beauties that get more beautiful as they age. Going along with the cape trend, J.Lo’s dress is a cross between canary yellow and citron. I love the ruching at the waist and the gorgeous train. Her shoes add a great sparkle along with her necklace and clutch. The addition of the cape was a fashion risk and it paid off in my opinion.
Bryce Dallas-Howard in Jenny Packham
As if you needed another reason to adore Bryce Dallas-Howard, instead of getting a custom-made dress, Bryce went out to her local Neiman Marcus and picked this dress up. Jenny Packham can do no wrong. I love the lace on this dress and really love the sequin detail. Perfection!
Lily James in Marchesa
Another gorgeous win for Marchesa. This dress is great on so many different levels. It is simple but not plain. The color usually would wash someone out but looks very flattering on Lily. This dress screams ethereal ballerina. I also really like the makeup she chose to wear.
That’s a wrap, folks. I’ll be covering all the major award shows in the next few months so be sure to keep an eye out!
